Nanotechnology will Revolutionise Design in the 21st Century

Posted on August 21, 2018November 30, 2018

For those unfamiliar with it, Nanotechnology is the manipulation of matter on an atomic, molecular, Nanotechnology came into it’s own at the turn of the 21st century when it became possible to actively and intentionally modify molecules and structures within the atomic, molecular and supramolecular scale, and it is the control of matter at the nanometre scale that distinguishes nanotechnology from other areas of technology. Nanotechnology is bridging the gap between science fiction and fact. Using nanotechnology scientists and engineers can now manipulate structures in the nanometre scale and use them in the design, production and application of new materials that can be used in building structures, devices and systems and the novel properties of nanomaterials offer a brave new world of technological breakthroughs in an array of industries including medicine, architecture, environmental science and aeronautics.  As we discover more about the possible uses of nanotechnology, cutting edge designers in every imaginable field will begin to explore what we can do with this technology that we could not do before, to solve many of the critical problems that we face today. Nanotechnology is already being applied in many fields including the manufacturing of consumer goods, medicine and environmental science. There is absolutely

Hexagon Patterns

Posted on November 26, 2015November 15, 2016
I’ve been wanting to spend more time developing my illustration skills, and after an inspiring trip to HOW 2012 in Boston I got the jump start I was looking for. Last year, I did a bunch of reading about personal style and determined that my personal style is Classic. The classic style clothing, accessories, and paper crafts that I saw in some Boston shops got stuck in my head. I started a pattern illustration project based on a classic-preppy-nautical theme. This hexagon pattern was the first one I made, in a variety of color palettes.

Tessellate repeating pattern for Phoenix Design Week

Although I wouldn’t label all of my work as minimalist, it is heavily informed by many of the same principles. Perhaps this comes from my background in graphic design. I appreciate the elegance of minimalism in the same way an engineer would appreciate the simplicity and efficiency of a well-designed machine with no redundant or extraneous parts. However, minimalism seems to be a style that many people don’t get. Some may view it as purely esoteric, but I also wonder if people mistake simplicity for lack, failing to see just how much artistry actually goes into a concise composition solution. Minimalist art is not the same as abstract art, but they do have areas of overlap. Since I’ve previously written much on the subject of abstraction, I’ll try to avoid repeating similar concepts. This post is the first of a two-part series that I hope will offer some insight into the craftsmanship and creativity that goes into paring down a composition of all nonessential components, particularly within the medium of photography. I hope to convince you of the elegance of a reductionist approach to composition, and that achieving simplicity takes much more finesse than you might expect.

[button link="#"]Blazin M Ranch, located near Cottonwood, AZ is a one of a kind Western Themed / Cowboy Supper Venue. There is no place in Arizona quite like the Blazin M. The Blazin M Ranch offers a mix of western entertainment (music & character actors), dining and shopping for the whole family. Blazin M Ranch needed to increase their online bookings and conversion rate. In a perfect scenario, 80% of all bookings would be completed online vs. the traditional phone reservations. The existing web presence neglected to offer online reservations. The content, aesthetics and site’s user experience wasn’t indicative of the Blazin M Ranch experience. Amy Lamp was hired to design a custom WordPress theme. Amy’s design propelled the company’s image in a modern direction. Content development and imagery were created to make sure the goal of conversion was met, plus we wanted to make sure that Blazin M Ranch was appealing to various demographics. Blazin M Ranch management couldn’t have been happier with the results. The custom WordPress site developed for Blazin M Ranch increased online bookings by 70%. Organize traffic increased through optimized content and SEO best practices which met the secondary goal of the WordPress development. The

nicole larkin, a sydney-based creative who places a focus on digital fabrication techniques and craftsmanship, has realized a dynamic and temporal installation for sculpture by the sea. built for the 2016 edition at bondi beach, ‘dynamics in impermanence’ explores new ways in which viewers can experience, interpret, and inhabit artworks. made from birch plywood, stainless steel, and concrete, the installation generates ever-changing perspectives depending on the time of day, weather and climatic conditions. all photos by ben guthrie     sited on the edge of a rocky cliff and overlooking the sea and nearby city, ‘dynamics in impermanence’ is also an exploration into how photography can break down the authentic artistic experience. german cultural critic walter benjamin explored the idea of ‘aura’ in art, arguing that the experience of a reproduction can be almost as fulfilling as an encounter with the original.     larkin’s installation for sculpture by the sea, identifies with this paradigm by creating shifting experiences for the both the authentic and reproductive experiences. the ever-evolving elements of the site — particularly light, shadow and weather — alter the digital, photographic interpretation of the piece. theatrical snapshots, captured here by photographer ben guthrie, depict ‘dynamics in impermanence’
